Workday Funday!
Disaster partnerships and why partnerships matter!
“Everybody can be great. Because anybody can serve. You don’t need a college degree to serve… You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.” – Martin Luther King Jr.
Something many of us have never had to experience is waking up to wet floors, wet bedding and wet furniture. Needing to stand on an upturned crate in order to get dressed, is the reality for many people living in informal settlements during a wet winter. On the other hand, losing all our belongings in a house fire is almost incomprehensible too. Unfortunately, load shedding has made this all the more common as electrics short and people aren’t always home to stop a blaze. 🙁
In the wake of the incredible storms we have experienced in the Western Cape, The last of our ready-packed Buckets of Hope went to victims of the Mosselbank River flooding in Klipheuvel. Thanks to the Josiah Trust, the buckets formed part of much needed food hampers.
This means we are ready to start packing the next batch of 50 buckets. This time we are also adding a bag of pet (dog or cat) food be available should the affected family have pets. When the family suffers, the pets suffer too!
How can you help?
Network network network! you don’t have to supply everything! you are our eyes, ears and fellow villagers!
- Talk to your friends, family, neighborhood WhatsApp groups, church groups and book clubs. Awareness is key!
- Add (even one) item to your weekly shop
- Gather blankets you no longer use (great early spring cleaning idea! :))
- donate directly and we will do the purchasing (our banking details are on the website)
- Put the contents of a bucket together (the list is under the projects – buckets of hope tab)
Thanks for being part of our village. Together our small drops make an oceon!
